“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” - John Dewey

On behalf of the Delray Chamber Education Fund (DCEF), I would like to thank you for attending Delray’s 2021 Education Breakfast as we kicked off the school year by honoring our hard-working, dedicated teachers and administrators.

The breadth of our Delray Beach educational community was clearly on display as more than 200 attendees cheered on the principals of eight local schools as they each were awarded “learning loss recovery” grants to launch  the new school year. The crowd also enjoyed a keynote address by Education Foundation of Palm Beach County President and CEO James Gavrilos and greetings from Terrance Moore, Delray Beach’s new city manager, and Palm Beach County Education Board member Erica Whitfield.

In the process, the newly reorganized DCEF emphasized as the Delray Chamber’s commitment to an activist educational program charged with developing, supporting and funding a diversity of educational initiatives. DCEF  helps make Delray learning programs and schools among the top tier in Palm Beach County.

We would also like to express our most sincere gratitude to the many breakfast sponsors (listed below), without whom the educational grants and annual breakfast would not be possible. We appreciated sponsor input in 2021 and look forward to their participation in future DCEF initiatives.

Stay tuned for new events being planned by the DCEF as we “cultivate” the future of our public schools and the vital role they play in the economic and social well-being of our community.

Warm regards,

John Peters

WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!

While the Education Breakfast was a great success, our vital work is just beginning as our local schools face a wide range of crises:

  • Students are experiencing learning delays and losses up to one full year in the case of many at-risk families due to the Covid pandemic.

  • Student enrollment is down, daily attendance has fallen, and failure rates are up

  • Children already at risk are the most severely impacted.

  • Children entering kindergarten for the 2021/2022 school year will have missed

foundational skills.

Your participation can take many different forms including volunteerism, board membership, and, of course, donations.
